Rise in power generation, construction, and automotive industries are playing important role in the development of petroleum coke industry

Petroleum coke look like a solid rock materials and is a by-product of crude oil. It is primarily used across various manufacturing industries as an energy source.  Pet coke can be classified into fuel grade and calcined grade. Power generation, steel industry, metal, aluminum, construction, and blast furnace are some of the key end-user of petroleum coke

One of the main characteristics of petroleum coke is that it has a high melting point. It can be used as an effective heat sink or to provide additional thermal resistance to a product. It is commonly used in conjunction with other refineries as a part of a multi-step refining process where it acts as both a solvent catalyst. In most cases, the coke is combined with other materials that contribute to its properties. One such material is polymers. Polymers are created when petroleum coke, in addition to other ingredients, is heated. They are formed through the reaction of petroleum coke with a polymer catalyst and then polymerized after the cake has cooled.

Another property of petroleum coke that is commonly found in many products is its ability to absorb moisture. There are two forms of this property: wet and dry. In the case of dry petroleum coke, the product is not able to absorb moisture and it tends to be somewhat brittle when wet. When using this type of coke, it is important to keep the coke at a temperature where it will not absorb moisture. Petroleum coke has been used in the manufacturing of almost everything for a long time. This includes construction of buildings, flooring, insulation, plastic, fiber cement, gasoline, paints, and many others.

The UAE region is witnessing several partnership and agreement in the pet coke industry. For instance, recently, Arabian Cement Company (ACC) announced an agreement with the Egyptian Refining Company, stipulating to supply local petroleum coke (pet coke). The goal of this agreement is to reduce the production costs of the petcoke.
