Breast Lesion Localization Methods Improve Esthetic Appearance of Breast

Breast lesion localization methods are used to detect the abnormalities in terms of a lump or tumor in the breasts. The medical and cosmetic markets are buzzing with exciting claims regarding breast lesion localization methods for improving the aesthetic appearance of large or irregularly shaped breasts. The increasing number of invasive breast cancers combined with the rising concern on early diagnosis of breast cancer has created an increased interest on breast enhancement techniques.

Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall. According to Zentrum für Krebsregisterdaten (the Center for Cancer Registry Data), in Germany, about one in eight women is expected develop breast cancer over the course of a lifetime, based on current incidence rates. Almost three out of ten affected women are below 55 years of age at diagnosis. A triple test, which is a physical examination, is followed by imaging and biopsy of the breasts, can be used to diagnose breast cancer.

Even though some of these enhancement techniques have been found to be effective, there are also several reports of adverse reactions in patients. Some of the most common complications of these techniques include asymmetry, formation of scar tissue, poor aesthetic appearance, and excessive scar formation. Despite the reported negative reactions, more women are resorting to these methods to improve the appearance of their breasts. The use of lesion localization is compulsory in case of breast cancer.

However, selection of a suitable breast lesion localization method is also a very important choice based on different factors such as age, safety, efficacy, etc. Breast lesion localization methods include both saline and silicone gel implants. The silicone gel implants are considered more effective due to their ability to adhere to the dermal surface of the body. The downside of the silicone gel implant is that they are more difficult to remove during future surgeries. Another reason why saline is considered the best implant by many surgeons is the ease in the removal of the implant compared to silicone gel implants. This leads to a lower incidence of scar formation and better aesthetic appearance after surgery.
