How Anti-Fungal Drugs helping to treat and prevent different types of fungal infections including candidiasis?

An anti-fungal drug, more commonly known as an anti-fungal antibiotic, is an organic, biodegradable, cell-pellant fungicide or antimycotics used to cure and prevent fungal infections like athlete's foot, ringworm, and candidiasis, Systemic infections like seborrhea and thrush, and many others. It may also be used for other purposes as well, but the primary function it performs is in killing microorganisms that cause infections. Anti-fungal drugs are grouped into three main categories topical applications, oral applications, and intravenous applications.

Topical Delivery Anti-fungal drugs are available both in tablet and capsule forms. They are applied to the skin via a cream, lotion, or gel. The most commonly used topical delivery systems are Fluconazole (Diflucan), Miconazole (Monistat), and Butoconazole (Fungiectomy). The most popular oral delivery systems are Metronidazole (Dimensac), Hydroconazole (Orungal), and Steroxazole (Carmichael). For topical delivery systems, systemic toxicity and contraindications are the main concern, as with systemic antifungals. Oral Applications One of the most commonly used anti-fungal drugs in the world is Ketoconazole (also known as Fluconazole). This drug is effective in treating and preventing nail fungus infections like athlete's foot.

It is also effective in treating and preventing the infection caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, molds, fungi, and parasites. Topical applications of Ketoconazole are available in its capsule and powder form. Topical Drug Delivery Systems Many topical anti-fungal drugs are formulated to penetrate the outermost skin layers. However, a very little drug can reach the photoreceptor layer because this is a lipid that blocks some molecules from penetrating. Therefore, in order to increase penetration, many drugs have been formulated to improve permeability, which improves penetration into the photoreceptor layer. Recently, in Japan, Sato Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. received manufacturing and marketing approval for oral antifungal agent NAILIN Capsules 100 mg.
