Fingerprint Module; Helps to Identify a Person by Scanning Their Fingerprints

Fingerprint module is a technology that helps establish the identity of an individual, using two processes, such as fingerprint enrolment and fingerprint matching. It recognizes and validates the fingerprints of an individual to allow or deny access to a physical facility or a computer system. Fingerprint module is combination of hardware and computer software programs. User has to register his fingerprint, in fingerprint enrollment, which gets stored in the database. Whereas in fingerprint matching, the system find the user’s fingerprint match in database and according to match allow or deny access.

Fingerprint modules are commonly used in airports, casinos, banks, and other commercial industries, particularly in consumer devices such as smartphones and tablets. It determines if the finger belongs to the person by analyzing the features of the finger and matching it with the picture on the screen or by performing some other method. This technology can be used for more than just determining fingerprints though. For instance, smartphone manufacturers are developing applications that run on finger scanning technologies, especially for their new smartphones. These applications help smartphone users to access their phone's features.

With the increasing utilization or increasing adoption of biometrics by government and non- government organizations for enhanced security, the demand for fingerprint module is also increasing with a rapid pace. For instance, in April 2020, IDEMIA announced the deployment of MorphoWave Compact in Japan to provide high security and convenience for businesses and the public. The contactless fingerprint technology was installed in the new headquarters of Digital Garage, located in the famous Shibuya district in Tokyo. Moreover, in March 2020, IDEMIA collaborated with Japan Aerospace Corporation (JAC) to deploy MorphoWave Compact Level5 stadium in Japan.

Fingerprint module has a rich command set for operating functions such as to enroll, verify, or identify fingerprints, read or write fingerprint template file, get fingerprint image and so on.
